The Glebe takes its name from the church glebe lands that once covered it, and most of the neighbourhood was built between about 1900 and the 1930s as streetcars ran down Bank Street. The result is block after block of two-and-a-half storey brick homes with front porches, steep gables and narrow side yards, from the Glebe Annex to the Clemow Estate near Patterson Creek, with Lansdowne and Dow’s Lake on the edges.
Big elms and maples are part of the charm, and they are also why Glebe gutters fill so fast. Add old porch roofs, lots of windows and painted trim, and most of our work here is gutters, glass and siding. Permanent lighting can look lovely on a Glebe porch or gable, but tight spacing and older trim mean we judge each house individually and will tell you if it is not a good fit.
